Ex-Opposition MP calls for top cop's transfer after Andhra Chief Minister injured

Former Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MP Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar demanded the transfer of top three Andhra Pradesh police officers for their alleged failure to protect Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, who was recently hurt in a stone pelting incident, during poll campaign.

Former Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MP Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar on Sunday requested the Chief Election Commissioner to immediately transfer the top three Andhra Pradesh police officers for their alleged failure to protect Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, who was recently hurt in a stone pelting incident, during poll campaign.

Jagan Mohan Reddy was injured after stones were thrown during his roadshow in Vijayawada on Saturday. One of the stones hit the Chief Minister above his left eyebrow, narrowly missing his eye.

Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) MLA Vellampalli Srinivasa Rao, who was present with the Chief Minister during the campaign, also suffered injuries.

In a letter to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, the former TDP MP requested the immediate transfer of state DGP KV Rajendranath Reddy, DGP Intelligence PSR Anjaneyulu, and Commissioner of Police, Vijayawada Kanti Rana, saying they miserably failed in their duty to protect the Chief Minister.

"It is sad that the police failed miserably to give adequate protection to the Chief Minister in Vijaywada itself, where the top brass of police, DGP, DG Intelligence, and Commissioner of Police are stationed," Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar said.

He also condemned the attack and demanded a CBI investigation into the matter.

He added that the police have lost their professionalism and impartial conduct in the last five years of YSRCP’s rule.

Citing attacks on the convoys of N Chandrababu Naidu and TDP’s party office in Mangalagiri, he wrote that the investigation is these cases were biased, and the culprits were left free.

Kumar, in his letter, also mentioned the security lapse that had occurred during PM Modi’s rally in Chilakaluripet, on March 17 this year, and how the police took no action to punish those responsible.
