India calls for de-escalation in Israel-Iran conflict - Greater Kashmir

New Delhi, Apr 14:  India voiced deep concern over the mounting tensions between Israel and Iran, citing potential threats to regional peace and security. Urging an immediate de-escalation, India called for the exercise of restraint and a cessation of violence, advocating for a return to diplomatic negotiations.

The Ministry of External Affairs in a statement issued here said: “The situation is under close observation, with Indian embassies in the region maintaining close contact with the Indian community. Emphasising the importance of upholding security and stability in the region, India underscores the need for collective efforts to mitigate the crisis.

“We are seriously concerned at the escalation of hostilities between Israel and Iran which threatens the peace and security in the region. We call for immediate de-escalation, exercise of restraint, stepping back from violence and return to the path of diplomacy. We are closely monitoring the evolving situation. Our Embassies in the region are in close touch with the Indian community. Security and stability must be maintained in the region.”

The Embassy of India in Tehran has expanded its helpline services, providing additional contact numbers for any assistance needed.

India has issued an advisory urging its citizens to avoid travel to both Iran and Israel until further notice.

“Indian nationals currently residing in Iran or Israel are urged to promptly contact the Indian embassies in these countries and register themselves,” stated the ministry on April 12. “Furthermore, they are advised to exercise utmost caution regarding their safety and limit their movements to essential activities only.”

In response to escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, India’s major carriers, Air India and Vistara, have announced changes to their flight paths, avoiding Iranian airspace for their Europe and US operations.

The move comes after the Indian government issued an advisory urging citizens to avoid travelling to Iran.

Consequently, Air India and Vistara are now opting for longer routes to ensure the security and stability of their operations.
