Tiger Woods breaks Masters record as PGA Tour legend makes cut at Augusta National
Tiger Woods booked himself a weekend spot at this week's Masters Tournament, and in doing so once again wrote his names into the Augusta National history books
by Joshua Lees · The MirrorTiger Woods has broken the record for most consecutive cuts made at the Masters Tournament, after booking his weekend spot following the end of his second round on Friday.
Woods is making only his second appearance of the season at Augusta National this week, but has ensured he will remain in contention across all 72 holes after finding himself on the right side of the halfway-point cut. The five-time champion sits at one-over-par for the week, making his 24th cut on the bounce at the opening major championship of the year.
In doing so he moves ahead of fellow Augusta greats Fred Couples and Gary Player on 23 cuts made, a record he equalled 12 months earlier before being forced to withdraw through injury ahead of round three.
Woods' fitness struggles have been well-documented, however this time around the American seems much more comfortable on his feet. Despite making it to the weekend, his body was put through its paces on Friday, after being forced to play 23 holes due to a rain delay on Thursday.
The 82-time PGA Tour winner returned to the course at 8:00 a.m. local time to complete his opening round, before a quick turnaround saw him back out on the course for round two. Despite the tough task, Woods more than held his own, following up his opening one-over 73 with a level-par 72.
It was a turbulent start to round two, as the 15-time major champion made three birdies and three bogeys across his opening nine holes. In typical Woods fashion though, he steadied himself following the turn.
The only blemish on his back-nine came with a bogey at the 14th, however this was quickly cancelled out after responding perfectly with a birdie at 15. Woods' target now will to be complete all 72 holes, something that has proven a tough test for the American in recent years.

Since suffering career-threatening injuries in a car crash in February 2021, Woods has played all four rounds of a tournament on just three occasions. Despite looking more comfortable, the 48-year-old has made no secret of his constant battle with his body.
His latest setback came in the way of ankle injury that forced him out of last year's Masters which has since received extensive treatment. "Well, the ankle doesn't hurt anymore," he said pre-tournament.
"It's fused. It's not going anywhere. So that's fine. It's other parts of my body that now have to take the brunt of it." With a smile, he later added: " I hurt every day. I ache. No, I ache every day. And I prefer it warm and humid and hot. And I know we're going to get some thunderstorms. So at least it will be hot. It won't be like last year."
