We simulated Arsenal vs Aston Villa to get a Premier League score prediction
Arsenal welcome Aston Villa to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, so we simulated the game to try and predict the outcome
by Lewis Barton · football.londonArsenal can take another small step towards the Premier League title with three points against Aston Villa later today.
After Liverpool dropped points last weekend, Arsenal returned to the top of the Premier League table on goal difference following their 3-0 win away to Brighton and Hove Albion. The clash against the Seagulls was a difficult fixture on paper, and next up is what seems another tough test as the Gunners face high-flying Aston Villa in the Premier League.
Mikel Arteta's side enter the game on the back of a 2-2 draw at home to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, with Arsenal undoubtedly also having one eye on the second-leg clash in Germany next Wednesday. The last meeting between the Gunners and Villa saw Arsenal fall to a 1-0 loss at Villa Park.
So, could Arsenal end the week as league leaders once again? Let's take a look.
Arsenal vs Aston Villa simulated to get a score prediction
To complete this simulation, we used EA FC 24 and updated the squads with the latest injuries and suspensions.
We predict that Arsenal could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Rice, Odegaard, Smith Rowe; Saka, Havertz, Trossard.
We predict that Villa could line up in a 4-4-1-1 formation, with their starting XI as follows: Martinez; Konsa, Carlos, Torres, Digne; Bailey, Tielemans, McGinn, Rogers; Diaby; Watkins.
Arsenal nearly got off to the worst start possible when Gabriel gave away a penalty for lunging in on Ollie Watkins, but David Raya came to the rescue as he saved the striker's spot kick just three minutes in. After the early scare, Arsenal started to get comfortable, and they took the lead on the 10-minute mark.
A one-two between Emile Smith Rowe and Leandro Trossard set the latter free down the left, and the Belgian did well to cut inside and pick out Kai Havertz in the box. Shown onto his right, Havertz took on his marker before firing into the bottom corner with the outside of his left boot, and the swerve took the ball past Emiliano Martinez and into the net.
The Villa keeper was proving the star of the show in the second half, with the Argentine making some fantastic stops to keep his side in the game. Twice he denied Gabriel from corners, with the Brazilian extremely unlucky not to score.
The pressure continued from the Gunners throughout the second half, and in the 84th minute, they wrapped up the three points.
After winning back possession on the left, Trossard surged forward into space with plenty of options in the middle. A fantastic pass from the Belgian picked out Bukayo Saka at the back post, and after his first shot was well saved, there was no denying the rebound as he blasted home from close range to make it 2-0.
EA FC 24 predicted final score: Arsenal 2-0 Aston Villa
