'Where is he going?' - Ally McCoist blasts Tottenham star after Newcastle United capitulation
Spurs have conceded twice in two minutes to fall 2-0 down against Newcastle United in what is a huge battle in the race for the Premier League's top four
by Jack Flintham, Oliver King · football.londonAlly McCoist has said Micky van de Ven looks like he is on rollerblades after a disastrous two minutes for Tottenham Hotspur against Newcastle United.
Spurs headed into the clash at St James' Park in the knowledge that the race for the top-four has become even more important. Following English clubs' disappointing performances in Europe this week, the Premier League is by no means guaranteed a fifth Champions League qualification spot.
Tottenham are currently inside the top four on goal difference ahead of Aston Villa but that is in jeopardy after falling 2-0 down inside as many first-half minutes. Eddie Howe's men took the lead as Destiny Udogie was outmuscled off the ball allowing Alexander Isak to easily cut inside Van de Ven to fire home.
While St James' Park regathered their collective breaths it was 2-0. Again Van de Ven was easily beaten and left on the floor as Anthony Gordon doubled the advantage.
On co-commentary duty for TNT Sports, McCoist was in shock at how poor the Dutch defender looked. "I have got to say, I think van de Ven has got rollerblades on. I don’t know what happened there," he exclaimed.
"Anthony Gordon does really well, and I don’t know whether it is in Anthony Gordon’s head that he’s already been down a bit earlier. He cuts inside him and the big fella goes down again, it’s unbelievable! Where is he going?

"A really composed finish again right across the goalkeeper but dear me. Shocking back pass in the first place you have to say.
"What a finish again it is. The ball back in from Pedro Porro is shocking.
"The big fella goes to the ground, I don’t know what kind of studs he has got in there. Anthony Gordon thinks about it, by the goalkeeper, two nothing.
"We have been speaking about him (Gordon) even before the two goals, he’s had a terrific first half but I don’t know whether the big fella has got the wrong studs or wrong boots on but he’s been all over the place." Before the match, Van de Ven had been praised as a Rolls-Royce by former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand.
However, even the Premier League winner could not find any solace for Van de Ven after that half. "Sometimes Rolls-Royce’s do have technical issues and need to go for an MOT or a once over," Ferdinand said.
"We have talked about how good he has been this season, but he’s had a 45 minutes to forget."
