Tottenham fell to a woeful 4-0 defeat to Newcastle United to fall down to fifth in the table on goal difference. Before the trip to St James' Park, Spurs were ahead of Villa by three goals but the thrashing by Eddie Howe's side has seen them drop out of the top four.
It means that Villa will strengthen their hopes of bringing Champions League football to Villa Park with a result at Arsenal on Sunday. Spurs do have a game in hand, though it is against Manchester City.

Here, we take a look at Spurs' upcoming fixtures for the remainder of the season.
Arsenal (H) Sunday, April 28
Is this the best opportunity to bounce back and respond, or the worst-case scenario?
The north London Derby is always fiery, but this one carries significant implications for the top of the table.
Arsenal are in a position where they can't afford to lose any points in the title race, and if they're to miss out on Champions League qualification by finishing fifth, then Spurs also have little room for error. This sets the stage for one of the most exciting clashes in recent years.
Tottenham may claim to handle the emotional aspect of the game better than their bitter rivals, but when the season's outcome hangs in the balance, it will test new aspects of their character. Villa, who face Arsenal on Sunday, will be hoping to create a safety net and view this match as an opportunity to solidify their hold on fourth place.
Chelsea (A) - Tuesday, May 2
As if things weren't challenging enough, the reverse fixture was one of the most chaotic games of the season so far. Despite Chelsea's mid-table standing on paper, they remain an unpredictable force.
In north London, they showcased their ability to navigate high-pressing teams, a skill they've since reinforced with impressive results against Manchester City, Arsenal, and Newcastle. Ange Postecoglou will need to address the problems that troubled his team in October when they face Mauricio Pochettino in a rematch of the Battle of the Bridge.
Liverpool (A) Friday, May 5
The tough run continues for Tottenham towards the end of the season. They managed to secure a victory over Liverpool in the reverse fixture, but the win was marred by controversy surrounding VAR.
This time around, the stakes are much higher. Spurs, one of three teams dubbed as king-makers due to their fixtures against each of the top three, face an even tougher challenge in their quest for a fourth-place finish.
Liverpool will undoubtedly pose a significant challenge for Postecoglou, with the Anfield factor likely to play a part. Much like the upcoming clashes with Chelsea and Arsenal, it promises to be both entertaining and chaotic.
Burnley (H) Saturday, May 11
Burnley, under Vincent Kompany, are expected to pose less of a threat. Despite a late rally, they remain well adrift of 17th place and even a solid defence hasn't been enough to turn their fortunes around.
This presents Tottenham with a golden opportunity to secure three points, regardless of how their other matches against stronger opposition pan out.
Manchester City (H) - Sunday, May 14
From the easiest game left for Spurs to potentially the hardest. Even with a strong record against Pep Guardiola's side in recent years, this is not the sort of game that is ideal in a key run-in.
City, once again, have much bigger ambitions and will be pushing hard to lift the title once more. They were unable to win during the thrilling 3-3 draw when the two sides met in December but had a clear warning sent.
