Biden slaps sanctions on Myanmar military over coup

by · MarketWatch

President Joe Biden on Wednesday announced U.S. sanctions on Myanmar’s military, and again pressed its leaders to give up power.

Biden’s remarks came just over a week after the U.S. declared the military roundup of civilian leaders in Myanmar a coup.

In brief remarks, Biden said his administration will prevent generals from accessing funds held in the U.S., extend sanctions to close family members of the military; and freeze assets that benefit the Myanmar government.
