India on Sunday were knocked out of the T20 World Cup from the group stage after New Zealand defeated Afghanistan.

Batting first, Afghanistan made 124-8 in 20 overs with Najibullah Zadran playing a fine knock of 73 in 48 balls. However, no other Afghan batsmen were able to contribute significantly with the bat.

New Zealand had little trouble in chasing the target as they won the match by losing just two wickets with 11 balls to spare. Skipper Kane Williamson and Devon Conway remained unbeaten at 40 and 36 respectively.

New Zealand will now face England in the semi-final, while Pakistan will clash with Australia in another semi-final. England had defeated New Zealand in 2019 to lift the ODI World Cup trophy.

Reacting to his side’s win, Kiwi fast bowler Trent Boult, who finished with a three-wicket haul, said that his teammates were in good spirit.

England have topped Group 1, while Pakistan have led Group 2. India have accumulated just four points after four matches and have their last match against Namibia scheduled for Monday.
