T20 World Cup 2021: Mujeeb-ur-Rahman Is Going To Be Such A Key Element – Sunil Gavaskar On New Zealand vs Afghanistan Clash

Legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar has opined that spinner Mujeeb-ur-Rahman will be the key element for Afghanistan in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 clash against Kane Williamson-led New Zealand National Cricket Team which will commence on Sunday, November 7 at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.

Star Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb-ur-Rahman played his last ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 game against Scotland and he had a terrific outing in the match. Mujeeb bagged a five-wicket haul including three wickets in one over.

Mujeeb missed out on a game against Virat Kohli-led India National Cricket Team after picking a niggle. His absence was felt dearly.

Meanwhile, New Zealand vs Afghanistan clash will be the most important game for the Indian fans as the semi-finals qualification hopes of India certainly depends on the performance of Afghanistan. If Mohammad Nabi-led side somehow manages to defeat New Zealand, India will have an opportunity to make it to the semi-finals, However, if the Blackcaps win India will be instantly eliminated.

The Indian batting legend wants Mujeeb to be fit for the New Zealand clash as he feels the spin trio of Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi and Mujeeb-ur-Rahman can trouble Kiwi batters.

Gavaskar also said that Mujeeb is experienced and very difficult to pick just like Varun Chakravarthy and he will a key element for the team. In conversation with Star Sports Gavaskar said:

“I just want Mujeeb to be fit for that game. That would mean an additional mystery spinner against New Zealand. If he along with Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi can weave their magic then…Yesterday against Afghanistan India got a little toe in. Now they will have to hold forte.

“If Afghanistan beat New Zealand, they have smashed the door. Mujeeb is going to be such a key element for that game because he is very difficult to pick just like Varun Chakravarthy and he has got a little more experience than him. So he and Rashid Khan are going to be the key,”
