'SNL' jabs Aaron Rodgers' COVID-19 vaccine stance: 'It's my body and my COVID'

by · Sporting News

Aaron Rodgers' COVID-19 stance has now entered the realm of late-night comedy shows, as "Saturday Night Live" took a jab at the Packers quarterback following news of his unvaccinated status earlier in the week.

"SNL" featured Rodgers, played by comedian Pete Davidson, in a cold open during its latest episode. Davidson's character appeared on a parody Fox News segment hosted by Jeanine Pirro (played by Cecily Strong) to talk about his diagnosis with the coronavirus and whether he lied about being vaccinated.

Strong introduces Davidson's character — who sports a fake beard, long hair and beanie — by saying, "Our first guest is brave enough to say ‘Screw you, science. I know Joe Rogan.’ Please welcome NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers.”

(Strong's reference to Rogan is a nod to the fact Rodgers claimed to have taken monoclonal antibodies, ivermectin, zinc, vitamin C and D, and hydroxychloroquine after discussing the issue with the podcast host. The FDA has spoken out against using ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine as a means of preventing or treating COVID-19).

"Now Aaron, you're not vaccinated," Strong's Pirro character says. "So what? Who the hell cares? It's your body, your choice. And please never use that quote for any other issues."

"Exactly Jeanine," Davidson responds. "It's my body and my COVID. And I can give it to whoever I want. But suddenly the woke mob is after me. It's gotten so bad that State Farm called me, and they're not even offering me the Rodgers rate."

Strong's character then asks Rodgers whether he lied about being vaccinated — an actual topic of discussion, considering Rodgers in late August said he was "immunized" against the disease.

"I never lied. I took all my teammates into a huddle, got all their faces 3 inches away from my wet mouth and told them, 'Trust me, I'm more or less immunized. Go team!'

"People can talk all they want," Davidson continued. "But at the end of the day, my record is still 7-1. Meaning of the eight people I've infected, seven are fine."

Below is the skit in its entirety:

Rodgers has come under fire for the reasons he gave as to why he hasn't taken the vaccine, adding that he took alternative forms of treatment to keep him from getting infected by the disease. (Everything he said in the interview with Pat McAafee has been debunked by the FDA or CDC). He also railed against the "woke mob" for their criticism of him.

Apart from that, Rodgers has also lost a professional partnership with Green Bay-based medical organization Prevea Health. The group on Saturday announced it had cut ties with the quarterback because his views on the status did not align with the group's.

Because of his unvaccinated status, Rodgers will miss Sunday's game vs. the Chiefs. He is eligible to return no sooner than Nov. 13. He is in danger of missing Green Bay's Week 10 game vs. the Seahawks as well.
