A large Wisconsin healthcare system Saturday ended its partnership with unvaccinated Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, citing the medical care provider’s commitment to vaccinating people against Covid-19.

Prevea Health, which is based in Green Bay, and its partners have more than 80 healthcare locations throughout Northern, Eastern and Western Wisconsin, including services at hospitals, clinics and doctor practices. Prevea executives and medical care providers say they are striving to vaccinate populations they serve against Covid-19.

But Rodgers, who was infected with Covid-19 and is unable to play Sunday due to National Football League rules, confirmed this week that he is unvaccinated, saying on a radio show Friday he had an allergy to Pfizer’s and Moderna’s mRNA vaccines that prevented him from getting two of the three shots approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Rodgers, though, instead pursued his own unproven remedies and consulted with podcaster Joe Rogan on vaccine alternatives, which was apparently enough for Prevea Health to end its relationship with the star Packers quarterback and three-time NFL Most Valuable Player.

ESPN has reported that Rodgers, who said in August he was “immunized” against the virus “petitioned the NFL, the NFL Players Association and a jointly approved infectious disease expert to be considered vaccinated and therefore not have to follow protocols that unvaccinated players do both in team facilities and outside.” The NFL, however, denied Rodgers petition.

Prevea Health didn’t comment on Rodgers own unproven remedies against Covid, which included ivermectin, a drug better known to be taken by animals to fight off parasites. Prevea did, however, stress the importance of vaccinations against Covid-19 in its statement.

“Aaron has been a partner of Prevea Health, serving as a spokesperson and supporting the health care organization's health and wellness initiatives throughout Wisconsin, since 2012,” Prevea said in a statement released Saturday. “Prevea Health remains deeply committed to protecting its patients, staff, providers and communities amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes encouraging and helping all eligible populations to become vaccinated against COVID-19 to prevent the virus from further significantly impacting lives and livelihoods.”

Prevea Health didn’t disclose terms of its 9-year relationship with Rodgers.
