Britney Spears is reportedly not working on her own documentary despite rumours to the contrary.

The Slave 4 U singer, 39, has had her career under the spotlight thanks to the recent Framing Britney Spears documentary from The New York Times.

Now, a source apparently from Britney's inner circle has told TMZ that a documentary from Britney's team is not in the works.

They cite the difficulties that could arise from gaining permission from the star's conservators, which include her father Jamie Spears, and Britney would also need to vet and authorise it.

They report that this is despite a female filmmaker approaching the star's team about a documentary that she would hope to pitch to streaming giant Netflix.

The Mirror has reached out to representatives of Britney Spears for comment on the report.

On Thursday, it was confirmed by Los Angeles Judge Brenda Penny that Jamie must continue to share control over the singer's finances with the private trust company, Bessemer Trust.

This upholds a decision to share power that was made in court in November.

However, despite this share of conservatorship power, Jamie still remains in his role as a co-conservator despite the singer's efforts to remove him.

Jamie Spears had objected to the role of Bessemer Trust in the conservatorship but this was rejected by the judge.

Britney's lawyer Samuel D Ingham had said that Britney was "afraid" of her father and that it was no secret she wanted his role in the conservatorship to end.

Britney's conservatorship first came into place in 2008 following her much-publicised mental health breakdown and her father Jamie Spears and attorney Andrew Wallet.

In March 2019, Wallet resigned from his role as co-conservator.

In September 2019, Jodi Montgomery temporarily replaced Jamie Spears as the conservator for Britney's person due to his health issues, while he remained responsible for her finances.

In November, despite rejecting calls to remove Jamie from his role as a conservator, it was ruled to make the Bessemer Trust a co-conservator for Britney's estate alongside her father.

In December, Jamie Spears defended himself in a statement to CNN.

He commented: "I love my daughter and I miss her very much.

"When a family member needs special care and protection, families need to step up, as I have done for the last 12-plus years, to safeguard, protect and continue to love Britney unconditionally.

"I have and will continue to provide unwavering love and fierce protection against those with self-serving interests and those who seek to harm her or my family."

Increased interest in the case and the fan movement to #FreeBritney from her father's control has increased in light of the recent documentary from The New York Times entitles Framing Britney Spears.

The documentary also examined Britney's career and personal life, including her much-publicised relationship breakdown with former boyfriend and pop star Justin Timberlake.

Following the release of the documentary, Timberlake has now apologised on social media for his past behaviour towards Britney and fellow pop star Janet Jackson.
