Fuel prices see new highs as rates have increased for the third consecutive day

Petrol and diesel prices have seen a hike for the third straight day on Thursday.

Petrol price was hiked by 25 paise per litre and diesel by 31 paise a litre.

In Mumbai, the increase took petrol price to an all-time high of Rs 94.36 a litre and diesel to Rs 84.94/ litre.

Diesel rates rose to Rs 78.03 per litre in the national capital and petrol to an all-time high of Rs 87.85.

Petrol and diesel prices have increased 15 times in 2021.

So far this year, prices of fuel have risen by around Rs 4 per litre.

Fuel rates vary from state to state depending on the local incidence of taxation (VAT) and freight.

Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in Rajya Sabha said the government is not considering a reduction in excise duty to cool rates from their record highs.

For diesel, the central excise adds up to Rs 31.83 and VAT to Rs 10.99, he had said.

Besides, the price includes a dealer commission of a minimum Rs 2.6 per litre on petrol and Rs 2 on diesel.

Residents of Andheri West were alarmed when they heard the sounds of explosions on Wednesday morning. A major fire broke out after a series of blasts at an LPG cylinder godown in Versova. Four people are injured in the incident and have been immediately rushed to Mumbai’s Cooper Hospital. As per initial reports, two of them have suffered 60 per cent burn injuries. The other two received 40 per cent burn injuries.
Eight fire engines and seven jumbo water tankers were rushed to the site. The fire department had announced this to be a level 2 fire incident. This is the fourth incident reported in the last 24 hours.
The incident took place near the Anjuman school area on Yari road at around 10.06 am. However, the exact reason for the incident is yet to be ascertained.

Four injured persons have been rushed to Cooper Hospital. Two of them have suffered 60 per cent burn injuries. They have been identified as – Manjit Khan (20) and Mukesh Kumavat (30). Two others have received 40 per cent burn injuries and are identified as Rakesh Kadu (30) and Laxman Kumavat (24).
The incident took place near the Anjuman school area on Yari road at around 10.06 am. A resident, Anya Jagtiani, who lives off Yari Road near the blast site said that she began hearing the explosions around 9.40 am and it continued till 10 am. The exact reason behind the blasts is yet to be ascertained.
This is the fourth such incident of fire in Mumbai city and adjoining areas in the last 24 hours. On Tuesday a major fire broke out in four factories in Taloja industrial area, then another fire erupted near Versova fish market and the third incident took place at sample flat rooms of the Modela compound in Thane's Wagle Estate.
