New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend the Bharatiya Janata Party’s national office bearers’ meet on Sunday, the first for the party since the Covid-19 pandemic broke out last year.

All senior leaders of the party are expected to be present at the meeting, where there would be review discussions of states and their respective units by BJP national president JP Nadda.

A day before the key meeting, the BJP held key organisational meetings chaired by Nadda and attended by the national general secretaries and general secretaries (organisation) of all states.

BJP’s national general secretary (organisation) BL Santosh too was present at the meeting at the party headquarters in Delhi.

“The idea is to take stock of how well prepared we are for the Assembly polls in various states. Along with this, there is special attention given to civic polls and by-polls. We will not let any polls slip through our fingers,” a senior party official told news agency ANI.

The party leaders discussed the agenda for Sunday’s meeting, organisational work being done by the state units, and poll campaigns in states heading to elections in the next couple of months.

Today’s meeting will be attended by state unit presidents, and is significant as it is being held amid vehement protests by a section of farmers in Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh against the Centre’s three contentious new farm laws.

The BJP is also preparing for the Assembly polls in five states – West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Assam – in which the saffron party is eyeing a sweep in states they are not in power and retaining power where they already have functioning governments.
