Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have shared their exciting baby news, telling fans around the world that the Duchess of Sussex is pregnant

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have announced they are expecting their second baby.

The couple shared a black-and-white picture of themselves, sat under a tree, with Harry resting his hand on Meghan's head as she lay in his lap cradling her bump.

A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said this evening: “We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother.

"The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.”

The new arrival will be a little brother or sister for Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, who turns two in May.

The news comes after the duchess suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage in the summer of 2020, and just days after she won a privacy case against Associated Newspapers Limited.

The Sussexes' royal baby, another great grandchild for the Queen and Prince Philip, will be eighth in line to the throne.

However, it's likely that he or she will have a very un-royal upbringing as a result of Meghan and Harry's decision to quit The Firm last year.

The couple decided against giving Archie a HRH title to allow him a more 'normal' life, so they will probably do the same for the new arrival.

It's likely that the new baby will be born in America and will grow up in the couple's new mansion in Montecito, Santa Barbara, which they bought for £11.1m last year.

The couple welcomed Archie on May 6, 2019, ripping up the royal rulebook and breaking many of the family's traditions to do things their own way.

They opted against posing for photos on the hospital steps, instead introducing their beautiful boy to the world at a photocall a few days later.

In July last year, Meghan suffered a miscarriage.

She shared a heartbreaking account of the experience in a moving letter for the New York Times, which was widely praised by people around the world.

She wrote: "It was a July morning that began as ordinarily as any other day: Make breakfast. Feed the dogs. Take vitamins. Find that missing sock. Pick up the rogue crayon that rolled under the table. Throw my hair in a ponytail before getting my son from his crib.

"After changing his diaper, I felt a sharp cramp. I dropped to the floor with him in my arms, humming a lullaby to keep us both calm, the cheerful tune a stark contrast to my sense that something was not right.

"I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second."

Meghan and Harry were set up by a friend, going on their first blind date at the beginning of 2016.

They tied the knot at St George's Chapel in Windsor in May 2018, in front of the Queen, Prince Philip, Charles, Camilla, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the rest of the royal family.

They also had all their celebrity pals there on the big day, including George Clooney and Oprah Winfrey.

They lived at Frogmore Cottage, just up the road from Windsor Castle, before moving to Canada and then to LA, which they are hoping to make their permanent home.
