Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are are expecting a second baby, the couple has announced.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex said their first child, Archie, was set to become a "big brother".

A spokesperson for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex said: “We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.”

The couple announced their pregnancy news with a black-and-white photo that was taken remotely via iPad by their friend and longtime photographer, Misan Harriman.

A smiling Harry looks lovingly at Meghan, who cradles her baby bump. The Duchess of Sussex wears a flowing dress that was first made for when she was pregnant with Archie by Carolina Herrera.

The happy news was announced on Sunday 14 February, 2021 – which is also, of course, Valentine's Day.

First son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, will be two years old by the time his younger sibling arrives – as his own birthday is on May 6.

It comes after Meghan and Harry stepped down as senior royals last year and moved to California.

Their desire to have a normal family life played a role in their groundbreaking decision.

Last year, Meghan revealed she suffered a miscarriage last July.

"Losing a child means carrying an almost unbearable grief, experienced by many but talked about by few," she wrote in a searingly honest and heartbreaking New York Times essay about her experience on November 25.
