Verstappen: 'Very cheap of Wolff to blame it on Bottas'.

Max Verstappen is happy with the lead in the championship, but is not counting on it yet. In conversation with De Telegraaf Verstappen also surprisingly takes the stand for Valtteri Bottas after the Grand Prix of Mexico.

Title not in the bag yet

Verstappen won the Mexican Grand Prix with ease. Despite a third starting spot, the Dutchman crossed the finish line with a large margin. As a result, the Red Bull driver ran further ahead of Lewis Hamilton in the world championship, but the battle is not over yet.

Yes, nineteen points is a lot, but that lead can quickly evaporate. I know all about that this season'', says Verstappen. However, the Dutchman does believe there is a great opportunity to become world champion this season. However, the 24-year-old is unwilling to predict how they will perform on a circuit.

Support for Bottas

Verstappen won the Mexican GP thanks to a great overtaking move at the start. From the slipstream he could pass Bottas and Hamilton on the outside. Bottas was criticised, also by his own team. He would have opened the door for Verstappen too easily, according to Wolff and Hamilton.

''You have to leave a car width of space, otherwise he would have got a penalty. I don't really know what Toto is talking about. You can very easily blame it on Valtteri, but I think that's very cheap,'' Verstappen however defends the Finn. Hamilton would later also apologise to Bottas for his comments.
