Kerala Election 2021: ‘Metro Man’ E Sreedharan is set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party on February 21, reported ANI. Sreedharan is credited to have successfully expanded the metro network in India. Today, Kerala BJP President K Surendran reportedly announced that Sreedharan will join the saffron party on Sunday, the day the BJP will launch a rath yatra — ‘Vijaya Yathra’.

K Surendran said Sreedharan will join the BJP during the party’s ‘Vijay Yatra’ commencing on February 21 from Kasaragod. He has expressed his willingness to work with the BJP, Surendran told reporters there. There was, however, no immediate reaction from Sreedharan.

The rath yatra will be launched from Kasaragod and will reach Thiruvananthapuram around the first week of March. This will kickstart BJP’s election campaign for the upcoming assembly elections in Kerala, where it has struggled to expand its footprint.

Last year, when Arvind Kejriwal announced free metro rides for women, Sreedharan wrote to Prime Minister Modi urging him not to agree to the proposal of the Delhi government. In a letter to the Prime Minister, Sreedharana said: “I would very earnestly request you sir not to agree to the Delhi government’s proposal of free travel to ladies in the Metro.” He further said that if the Delhi government was so keen to help lady commuters, he would suggest Delhi government can pay directly to the lady commuters the cost of their travel rather than make travel free on the Metro.
