An NDPS court in Kolkata on Saturday reserved its order in the case concerning BJP Youth leader Pamela Goswami. A state secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Goswami was arrested on Friday in possession of 100 grams of cocaine.
During the hearing, Pamela Goswami claimed BJP leader Rakesh Singh's men "planted" the pouches of cocaine in her car. "I have information from credible sources. I had recorded an audio five days ago," Goswami alleged.
While alleging that a "conspiracy" is being hatched against her, Pamela Goswami also said in court that the plot could also have been hatched by the New Alipore police station. "Detective department (DD) or Crime Investigation Department (CID) should look into the case," Pamela's lawyer argued.
Conspiracy to discredit me: BJP's Rakesh Singh
A close associate of BJP West Bengal in-charge Kailash Vijayvargiya, Rakesh Singh has also responded to the allegations.
"It is very easy to make a complaint but it is difficult to prove it. She [Pamela] will be able to tell why she took my name. All I can say is that it is a conspiracy to discredit me. I don't trust in this kind of dirty politics," Rakesh Singh said.
State committee member of BJP's Bengal unit, Rakesh Singh went on to add, "A few days ago, she [Pamela] complained to the police against leaders such as Bharti Ghosh and Swapan Dasgupta, on Facebook too. Even her father has filed a complaint against her."
Meanwhile, BJP's West Bengal in-charge Kailash Vijayvargiya refused to comment on Pamela Goswami's arrest.
Asked about the BJYM leader naming his close associate Rakesh Singh, Kailash Vijayvargiya told reporters in Hooghly on Saturday, "The Trinamool government has trapped thousands of supporters and leaders in fake NDPS and foreclosure cases. According to the BJP national president, in this case, we have faith in the judiciary."
Anyone can put cocaine inside car: Lawyer with BJP's legal cell
Prithvijoy Das, a lawyer with the BJP's legal cell told India Today, "The NDPS court has not passed any order. We have to wait for the outcome whether she has been released on bail or not."
Pointing out alleged discrepancies in the police diary entries, lawyer Prithvijoy Das said CCTV footage of the arrest will bring more clarity with respect to claims made by the police and Pamela. "The main discrepancy that arises is the time of arrest and when the information was received," Das added.
Asked about the cocaine recovered from her, lawyer Prithvijoy Das said, "It was not found with her. After in person search, it was not in her possession but in the car. It was in two pouches. One was 40 gms and the other 36 gms. Anyone can bring that pouch in their pocket and put it inside the car."
When he was questioned about why Pamela Goswami named BJP leader Rakesh Singh, BJP's legal cell member Prithvijoy Das said, "I was not allowed to have a conversation with her at length due to police officers."
