Prince Philip To Remain In Hospital Over The Weekend
by Becca Longmire · ET CanadaPrince Philip, 99, spent most of the week in hospital after being admitted Tuesday, ET Canada can confirm.
The Palace released a statement on Wednesday, which read: “His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to the King Edward VII Hospital in London, on Tuesday evening.
“The Duke’s admission is a precautionary measure, on the advice of His Royal Highness’s Doctor, after feeling unwell.
“The Duke is expected to remain in hospital for a few days of observation and rest.”
A source tells ET Canada the Duke travelled in a private car; it was not an emergency admission. They add the illness is not COVID-related and that the royal remains in good spirits.
Like other patients in hospital at the moment, Philip will not be receiving visitors due to COVID-19 restrictions, with the U.K. still being in lockdown.
A spokesperson for the King Edward VII Hospital confirmed visitors were not permitted, aside from in “exceptional circumstances,” the Metro reported.
Prince Philip is to remain in the hospital throughout the weekend and into next week under observation as “a precautionary measure” on the advice of his doctor.
ET Canada has reached out to the Palace for comment.
The news comes after both Philip and the Queen, 94, received the coronavirus vaccine at Windsor Castle last month.
The Queen remains in Windsor while Philip is in hospital.
