Britain's Prince Philip, husband of Queen Elizabeth, has been admitted to hospital after feeling unwell, Buckingham Palace said.

The Duke of Edinburgh, who is aged 99 and received a Covid-19 jab in January, was admitted to the private King Edward VII Hospital in London yesterday.

He was taken to hospital on the advice of his doctor and a palace statement said it was a "precautionary measure".

There will be concern for the duke because of his age - he turns 100 on 10 June - but it is understood he walked into the hospital and is said to be in "good spirits".

Philip has been spending the latest British lockdown with Queen Elizabeth at Windsor Castle

A palace spokesman said: "His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to the King Edward VII Hospital in London, on Tuesday evening.

"The Duke's admission is a precautionary measure, on the advice of His Royal Highness's Doctor, after feeling unwell.

"The Duke is expected to remain in hospital for a few days of observation and rest."

Queen Elizabeth, 94, and Prince Philip celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary last November. The prince retired from public duty in 2017.

Philip last had a spell in hospital when he spent four nights at the King Edward VII's in December 2019, where he was treated for a "pre-existing condition" and discharged on Christmas Eve.
