“This show so far has been mid for a big finale?? the last challenge just being football? #saturdaynighttakeaway," one fumed. “I'm a little disappointed that this final series of #SaturdayNightTakeaway did not feature once Grab the Ads,” another said.

A third typed: “I’m glad #SaturdayNightTakeaway is being rested because this season just felt like scraping the bottom of the barrel for ‘star’ guest announcers.” And another said on the social networking platform: “This show truly is in the gutter.

"They used to go to Disney and Universal on the last episodes of the series, and the fact they’re spending the last episode ever in the studios is just disappointing." Another said: “Compared to some of the more extreme challenges Ant & Dec have done over the years - this challenge seems way too easy for the last one. #SaturdayNightTakeaway.”

Another fumed on the social networking platform: “Sorry to be negative but this is so lame for a finale ant vs dec lol #SaturdayNightTakeaway." The duo plan to bid farewell in style with a two-hour special, which was kicked off by Craig David and guest announcers Girls Aloud.

At the top of the show, Ant told viewers: "It's going to be emotional," as he and Dec confirmed it is officially the final episode of the final series of before the show takes a break. After the first adverts, Ant welcomed viewers back to "welcome back to the last episode of your Saturday Night Takeaway'.
