UFC 268 live blog: Kamaru Usman vs. Colby Covington 2

This is the UFC 268 live blog for Kamaru Usman vs. Colby Covington 2, the welterweight main event for Saturday’s fight card at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The fight is a rematch between Kamaru Usman, the No. 1 ranked welterweight in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings and No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter, against No. 2 ranked welterweight Covington. The two first met in December 2019 at UFC 245 in a highly anticipated showdown. Coming into the bout, Covington had won seven straight fights and was expected to be a tough challenge for Usman. But after five rounds, Usman won the day with a devastating flurry of ground and pound that followed a jaw-breaking punch.

Since then, Usman has claimed his spot atop the pound-for-pound list with a series of dominant showings, including two wins over Jorge Masvidal (the most recent by second-round knockout), and Gilbert Burns. Covington has bided his time for another shot, earning his rematch with a stoppage win over ex-champ and longtime rival Tyron Woodley.
