‘Sooryavanshi’ emerges as Akshay Kumar’s highest opening weekend with 77 crore nett!

Akshay Kumar has set the cash registers ringing loud with his cop drama ‘Sooryavanshi’, which hit the screens on the occasion of Diwali. It opened with a bang at the box office with Rs 26 crore on Friday. The film went on to rake in Rs 24 crore on Saturday and earned Rs 27.50 crore on Sunday. The total weekend collection of ‘Sooryavanshi’ stands at a whopping Rs 77.50 crore nett.

With this grand figure, ‘Sooryavanshi’ has set the record for the highest opening weekend for Akshay Kumar. This record was previously held by ‘Mission Mangal’ which had earned Rs 67.13 in its opening weekend. This Rohit Shetty directorial earned massive push due to the Diwali holiday weekend. According to Boxofficeindia.com, ‘Sooryavanshi’ would have probably earned around 105-110 crore nett in its first weekend, during the pre-pandemic times. This action entertainer is doing positive business at the box office despite curtailed occupancy in various parts of the country. States like Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, resumed operations in cinema halls from July-August onwards. However, theatres in Maharashtra, which is a key market for the Hindi film industry, reopened with a 50 per cent capacity in October.

‘Sooryavanshi’ was scheduled to hit the screens in March last year, just when the nationwide lockdown was announced. With Akshay essaying the title role, ‘Sooryavanshi’ stars Katrina Kaif as the leading lady. Ajay Devgn as Singham and Ranveer Singh as Simmba have also essayed pivotal parts in this entertainer.
