Roy Keane ‘gives up’ on Manchester United players in half-time rant as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men booed off against Man City

Roy Keane gave up on Manchester United in a half-time rant after another disastrous showing from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

A rash decision from Eric Bailly saw him put the ball in his own net for a seventh-minute opener, before Luke Shaw allowed Bernardo Silva to make it 2-0 in the final moments of the half.

The game finished 2-0, but City racked up 67 per cent possession and 16 shots in a dominant display, and it could have been more if it wasn’t for David De Gea in goal.

United legend Keane was fuming at his old side’s showing, laying into the back four on Sky Sports at the break.

“These are international footballers I can’t understand the defending,” Keane said.

“I give up. I’m driving down here today thinking, ‘I wonder, you know Man United will have their chance, they’re at home’.

“They’ve been like this all season, giving up chances, and City got a little bit arrogant and gave them one or two chances, but it’s two at the moment, unless United do something drastic it’ll be another four or five.”

It’s been a rough two weeks for Solskjaer, who also saw his team collapse to a 4-0 half-time deficit for the first time in the Premier League, eventually falling 5-0 to a rampant Liverpool side.

A 3-0 win against Tottenham followed, before more Cristiano Ronaldo heroics were needed to secure a point against Atalanta in the Champions League.

But the crisis looks far from over for United, who are now without a clean sheet at Old Trafford in 14 games.

Keane compared the Liverpool collapse to the Manchester derby performance, saying the 2-0 was harder to take.

The scoreboard wasn’t humiliating, but the performance was

“It felt worse [than Liverpool], goal at half time, game all over,” he said.

“They just toyed with United. So poor, the difference in class, quality, decision making, everything. I know the old saying men v boys, but United are so off that it’s unbelievable.

“[Phil] Foden mentions there that it’s a tough place to come. It’s not. Ask Everton, ask Aston Villa, ask Liverpool.

“I look for characters, [Scott] McTominay, Fred… These players aren’t good enough for Manchester United.”

City’s Foden said post-match, “We had the game of our lives today,” and Keane was stunned by how fresh the English youngster appeared.

Foden and his teammates had it easy, much to Keane’s surprise

He explained: “Foden’s getting interviewed there after the game, when you’ve played in a Derby game you should be drained, you should be exhausted, you should have no energy left. He’s chatting there as if he’s just had a practice game.

“After watching that I totally now understand why fans would leave after an hour.

“I’m always critical of supporters, I say you stay till the end, you support your team, but when you’re watching that for an hour you say ‘come on, we need more.’”
