Manchester United treated ‘like a training drill’ by Man City as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men played off the park by rivals in another Old Trafford defeat

Manchester United suffered another embarrassing result at home as Man City played their neighbours off the park in a 2-0 victory.

Returning to Old Trafford for the first time since the 5-0 thrashing by Liverpool, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men got another lesson in football and it could’ve been worse.

Red Devils defender Eric Bailly gifted City the lead with a sloppy own-goal in the seventh minute, before more reckless defending from Luke Shaw allowed Bernardo Silva to double the lead.

There’s no shame in losing 2-0 to the Premier League champions, especially in this form, but boos from the stands will tell you the nature of the defeat was damning for Solskjaer’s side.

If not for David De Gea, and if Pep Guardiola’s side were more ruthless, it would’ve been another total humiliation.

Former Man United assistant Steve McClaren told talkSPORT: “It’s like a training drill. When the red team gets the ball, don’t let them out of their own half.

“This is how football should be played. It’s a masterclass from Man City.

“It’s 2-0, but the performance hasn’t been good enough. They’re way behind City.

“They’ve lost their bravery and this is not a top-four team.”

Meanwhile, former City winger Trevor Sinclair said: “It’s a mismatch. United can’t get anywhere near this Man City side, with or without the ball.

“The IQ of these players compared to the United players? They’re just too clever.

“It’s like City have two or three more players out there.”

Unlike away at Tottenham and Atalanta, there were no Cristiano Ronaldo heroics this time, and besides one snap-shot from the United forward which needed saving, the hosts never got close to City goalkeeper Ederson.

Guardiola’s men boasted 68 per cent of the ball, and even when United had it, City had total control of the match.

Pressure will no doubt intensify on Solskjaer after another performance which proved his United side are nowhere near the level of their supposed Premier League title rivals.
