Manchester United superstar injured, out vs Manchester City

Manchester United appear to have been handed a huge blow heading into the game against Manchester City. Some of the pressure has been lifted off of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s shoulders over the past week or so, with a 3-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur and a 2-2 draw against Atalanta. But the manager will know the importance of the upcoming game and a bad result will raise questions about his Old Trafford future once again.

It looks like Manchester United have huge injury worries though. Raphael Varane is set to miss around a month of action, as a result, Victor Lindelof finds himself in a race against time to get fit.

And now, it looks like Solskjaer might have a worry up top as well as it looks like Edinson Cavani will miss the Manchester Derby through injury.

According to journalist Rodrigo Romano and as reported by the Express, Cavani will not play against Manchester City because he has had a severe pain in his tendon for two days.

Cavani will not play for Manchester United against Manchester City

It goes without saying that this is a massive blow for Manchester United. Cavani looked tremendous against Tottenham Hotspur, finding the back of the net and was a huge reason behind their impressive win. And the partnership between the Uruguayan and Cristiano Ronaldo certainly has a lot of potential.

In the past, Ronaldo has played very well alongside Karim Benzema. And Manchester United fans would be hoping that he can do something similar with Cavani as well. It does not look like that will happen against Manchester City though.

Fortunately for Solskjaer, Manchester United have a lot of quality depth in the forward areas and if he decides to stick with his new system, he can easily line up Ronaldo alongside either Marcus Rashford or Mason Greenwood up top.
