City will make the short trip to Old Trafford in an early kick off on Saturday, for the 186th edition of the derby.

Ahead of the clash, Solskjaer spoke in a press conference on a number of derby-related issues, including whether City had become the bigger club among the two.

Since Sir Alex Ferguson left United in 2013, the Red Devils have not won the Premier League title, while City have won it four times, including last season.

In total, since the change of ownership in 2008, City have won the Premiership seven times, and four times since the new-look league in 1992/93.

In contrast, United have won the title a total of 20 times.

Asked whether Manchester City would eventually go on to become a bigger club, Solskjaer said:

“No, I can’t.”
“But the thing is you have to have respect for what they have done in the last 10 years or even more so in the last four or five with how dominant they have been in England and in Europe. But we are Man Utd, we are always going to come back, I think we are the number-one club in Manchester and that also probably means in the world.”

Looking to bounce back

Both sides have slipped in the title race in recent games, with Manchester United picking up a mere 4 points out of a possible 14.

City also succumbed to a shock 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in their last game, leaving them only three points ahead of United, going into the derby.

Solskjaer also spoke on the embarrassing 5-0 defeat to Liverpool a fortnight ago where he insisted that result was already behind them.

"The mindset is positive. Of course, we've got to go into this game believing we can do good things. It's a local derby and we know what's at stake,” he went on.

United backed to win Champions League

Elsewhere, Man United legend Teddy Sheringham has backed the club to win the Champions League title this season.

Despite the less convincing performances, Sheringham still contends the Old Trafford dwellers have everything it takes to conquer Europe.

According to the ex-United star, Ronaldo could be the person who could inspire the Manchester club to glory.
