Former England defender Micky Gray has told Manchester United they are not in a position to stick with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer until the end of the season.

The United boss is facing increasing pressure after another poor showing in Saturday’s derby, having fallen to a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City.

The loss was their fourth in the Premier League this season – sixth in all competitions – and came less than a fortnight on from their 5-0 humiliation at the hands of Liverpool, further emphasising how far off they are from the league’s top sides.

Despite the ongoing questions over Solskjaer’s position, no change looks to be in the offing at Old Trafford.

But former United trainee Gray delivered a warning to his former side, having seen an all-too familiar story as Solskjaer and Harry Maguire faced the media following Saturday’s defeat.

“How many times are they going to keep coming in front of cameras and saying this?” Gray told talkSPORT.

“I remember Harry Maguire coming in front of the camera when they got thumped by Liverpool and saying ‘I don’t really want to do this interview, but I’ve got to’.

“They have to come up with the answers, whether it’s the players or the manager, because they’re the ones who are going out performing, or not performing in this case every single week.

“You remember there used to be a time when you used to get judged against the top six and how many points you picked up against the top six?

“At the minute, they’re not doing that, and the big worry moving forward is, I think that’s four games we’ve lost this season. There’s still a long way to go in the Premier League, how many is it going to be when we get to the end of the season?

“By all accounts, they’re going to stick with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer till the end of the season. I don’t know if they’re in a position to do that.”
