Out of the potential options to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Brendan Rodgers appears to be the most ideal candidate

Brendan Rodgers viewed to be Manchester United’s most ideal Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replacement

After Ole Gunnar Solskjaer oversaw yet another shambolic performance against big rivals, Brendan Rodgers is tipped to be the best-fitted candidate for the Manchester United job

The majority of Manchester United fans have simply had enough of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Despite him being a club legend after his famous goal in the 1999 Champions League final, there’s concern that Solskjaer has come to the end of his capabilities.

Since the 4-2 Leicester defeat, the pressure ramped up on Solskjaer which has got progressively worse after the 5-0 mauling and the 2-0 dismantling against United’s two biggest rivals.

Now, the focus has now shifted to who could be the man to take over at Old Trafford and a name who is amongst one of the favourites is Brendan Rodgers. There would be something rather poetic if Rodgers was to take over at United, considering his current side were the team who really ramped up the pressure on Solskjaer just a few weeks ago.

In MEN’s latest Facebook Live, United on my Mind editor Mike Parrott accompanied Omar Garrick as they discussed all things United, including who the next Manchester United manager could be.

OG: “There have been links to Brendan Rodgers and as a United supporter, I’m not 100% sold on him purely because of the Liverpool links and as United supporters, it’s a big thing. Sir Matt Busby had Liverpool links but it’s different in the modern game.

“If Rodgers did come to United everyone would back him and see the good things he’s done at Leicester, Celtic and Liverpool. But at the same time, he’s had this reputation of bottling it at the wrong occasions.”

MP: “I wanted (Antonio) Conte, but now it seems the top three are Rodgers, (Mauricio) Pochetino and (Erik) Ten Hag. I think they all have similar aspects in the sense they all play attacking and progressive football. I think they’d all be decent but there are always questions.

“Ten Hag has done brilliantly in Holland but it’s very rare for players and especially managers to make the jump from the Eredivisie to the Premier League. The best manager who made that jump was probably Martin Jol, considering the other two were Louis Van Gaal and Frank De Boer.

“Brendan Rodgers is horrible with the Liverpool links. I’d be all for him if he came out in his press conference and said he hates Liverpool and refers to a Steven Gerrard slipping joke, if he did that I’d want him 100% for that alone!

“He’s like Pochetino where he’s high pressing and has lots of attacks from the wings which is traditionally in the United way. He uses youth and has Premier League experience. People see him as a bottler but the fact he’s got those teams into those positions is noteworthy.

“I think Rodgers would be a good manager but there’s the Liverpool link. If he could somehow dissolve that link I’d be more than fine with it. I think a lot of United fans would be pleased with him because he plays the way United fans would want to see.”

OG: “I have a few doubts about Rodgers but he does play a really nice brand of football and it’ll be interesting to see what United do from here. It looks like Solskjaer’s job is safe but that could change by the week or even the day.”
