Report: Spurs have eye on Brendan Rodgers if Jose Mourinho leaves

by · The Boot Room

Brendan Rodgers is one of the managers on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar, with the Daily Mail reporting that Jose Mourinho’s future in North London could be in a little doubt come the end of the season.

At one stage this term, Mourinho looked to be on course to guide Spurs back into the title conversation in the Premier League. However, his side have struggled of late.

They have lost four of their last five top flight games. Their only win in that time came against relegation-threatened West Brom.

The Daily Mail has suggested that his position could come under threat should Spurs miss out on European football for next season.

It is noted however, that Tottenham are aware that Mourinho would have to be paid a huge sum if he was dismissed in the summer.

Interestingly, the Mail has named two managers who both have admirers at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Along with Rodgers, Spurs are also keeping track of Julian Nagelsmann.

However, the Mail also notes that luring Rodgers away from Leicester would not be cheap either. So perhaps it would be fair to say that a move for the Northern Irishman is unlikely.

TBR View: Rodgers seems unlikely, but would be an exciting appointment

Nagelsmann looks to be one of the most exciting coaches in Europe right now. So it would obviously be a huge coup if Spurs could bring him in.

But a move for Rodgers would also have the potential to be a masterstroke. After a difficult end to his time at Liverpool, he has rebuilt his reputation at Celtic and now Leicester.

The Foxes were in the bottom-half of the Premier League when he took over. They are now third, only on goal difference. And they play an exciting brand of football.

As the report notes, Mourinho looks set to get every chance to prove that talk about his future is premature. But Rodgers could feel like a breath of fresh air if he did end up getting the job.
