Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has leapt to the defence of goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

The France captain has been below his best recently, at fault for a number of recent concessions during Spurs' disappointing run.

However, ahead of Thursday night's Europa League clash with Wolfsberger, Mourinho gave his backing to the 34-year-old.

And he insists that the World Cup winner continues to have his "full trust" and remains his undisputed No.1.

"When a player is a top player, it's not because of one mistake or two or three that means he's not a top player again," said Mourinho. "That's the most important thing.

"I shouldn't speak about it because he's not my goalkeeper, but I don't think he will take it in the wrong way.

"For me Alisson is one of the top five best goalkeepers in the world and in the last couple of matches, not yesterday, but in the matches before he's made big mistakes but he's is one of the top five goalkeepers in the world.

"Hugo is the same, he is an amazing, amazing goalkeeper that is performing super consistently.

"Since he recovered from that fracture, since my time here, he is playing so, so well. If he had responsibility in one or another goal we conceded recently, he's still the same goalkeeper.

"He's my No.1 choice and he has all my trust and my confidence."

Mourinho's men take on the Austrian side in Europe on Thursday, with the game being played in Hungary.

One man who will remain absent however is full-back Sergio Reguilon, although Mourinho is hopeful that the Spain international could be fit to return in the Premier League this weekend.

"He’s not coming,” Mourinho declared. “No setback. Just the process is not going as fast as initially we thought but no setback so let’s see.

“Weekend or next Europa League match on Wednesday. Let’s see.”
