UFC Vegas 19 results: Derrick Lewis blasts out Curtis Blaydes with wicked uppercut

by · Bloody Elbow

The UFC Vegas 19 main event was witness to a violent and brutal knockout when the #4 ranked heavyweight, Derrick Lewis, put the #2 rated, Curtis Blaydes, to sleep with an uppercut — and then landed a set of ferocious ground strikes on an already unconscious man. Blaydes got off to a strong start in the opening round, hurting Lewis on the feet. As soon as he shot in in the second frame, that’s when the Lewis uppercut put him out. This scary knockout extends Lewis’ winning streak to four, while breaking up four in a row for Blaydes.

Lewis struck first, clocking Blaydes with a flurry of haymakers as soon as the distance was closed. Blaydes reset and patiently pressed forward. When he did open up, he connected with a series of punches and a couple of calf kicks. Lewis began to back himself to the fence, and Blaydes started to up his output. With less than 10-seconds left in the opening round, Lewis received an accidental poke to the eye.

Blaydes shot in early in the second act, but Lewis was able to fend it off and remain on his feet. A slap lands for Blaydes, followed by the referee saying it was a slap and not a poke. Then, Lewis unleashed a brutal uppercut just as Blaydes shot in. Curtis hit the canvas already out, and then absorbed two devastating punches from “The Black Beast.” This was scary!
