Also on tap is a clash of ranked women’s Bantamweight contenders in Ketlen Vieira and Yana Kunitskaya, plus another Heavyweight tussle pitting rising finisher Chris Daukaus against veteran submission ace Aleksei Oleinik.

What Went Wrong at UFC 258?
Before the event? Bobby Green’s and Miranda Maverick’s fights fell through (details here and here). During the event? Nothing! Belal Muhammad was dominant as expected, and though Gabe Green and Chris Gutierrez had me worried, they ultimately emerged victorious for a second consecutive profitable event.

Danny Chavez (-145) vs. Jared Gordon (+125)
Drakkar Klose (-175) vs. Luis Pena (+155)
John Castaneda (-125) vs. Eddie Wineland (+105)
Julian Erosa (-125) vs. Nate Landwehr (-105)
Casey O’Neill (-145) vs. Shana Dobson (+125)
Jamall Emmers (-240) vs. Chas Skelly (+200)

Thoughts: Casey O’Neill is the star of the show this week, though Drakkar Klose, Nate Landwehr and Jared Vanderaa are tempting investments as well.
From where I’m sitting, O’Neill is right up there with Manon Fiorot when it comes to potential. She has Dobson out-classed on the ground by a flat-out unfair margin and is dangerous enough to hold her own on the feet as well. Impressive as Dobson’s upset of Mariya Agapova was, “Danger” got demolished on the mat until Agapova ran out of steam, which O’Neill isn’t remotely likely to do.
In short, go big on O’Neill to start her Octagon career right.
We’re now seven fights into Luis Pena’s Octagon career and he still looks no closer to putting it all together than when he started. Two of his last three wins have come over Featherweights, while the third saw him beat down a completely shot Matt Wiman. Klose’s ceiling may be lower than it initially appeared, but he’s still far more accomplished in UFC and has the tools to take apart Pena on the feet.
Julian Erosa has spent the vast majority of his time in the Octagon getting the snot kicked out of him, going 2-4 with three violent knockout losses. The man seems pathologically incapable of actually using his height and reach properly, allowing shorter opponents to get inside and tee off on his poorly protected chin. Landwehr’s entire game is built around marching through fire to tear apart opponents at close range, meaning that unless Erosa can catch him with a head kick, Landwehr’s going to chase him down and maul him.
It’s worth an investment, at least.
Jared Vanderaa isn’t anything special, but he is profoundly large and capable of wholesale destruction from top position. Serghei Spivac’s usually happy to wrestle, so it’s worth putting a bit down on “The Mountain” just in case.

Thoughts: I like the line on Chris Daukaus here — good takedown defense and sharp boxing are just what he needs to take out Oleinik, who’s been knocked out on the feet by three of his last five opponents. Heavyweights being what they are, caution is warranted, but I do think he’s a sufficiently safe investment.
