Derrick Lewis puts Curtis Blaydes to sleep with uppercut counter | UFC Vegas 19

by · MMAmania.com

Derrick Lewis and Curtis Blaydes face off today (Sat., Feb. 20, 2021) in a main event Heavyweight clash from UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada at UFC Vegas 19. Originally, these two Heavyweight contenders were set to do battle back in November, but a positive COVID-19 test at the last second removed Curtis Blaydes. Now, they’ll finally get a chance to test one another’s chins, and hopefully take one more step towards the Heavyweight crown in the process. In addition, there was a bit of bad blood between the two, as Lewis promised to violently stop Blaydes.

Strap in for tonight’s main event and follow along below for live updates and highlight clips:

Round One
Lewis scores clean with his first right hand swing of the fight. Blaydes feints and lands his own right after both men missed. Blaydes dug his second or third low kick of the night. Blaydes scores with a hard right and low kick — he seems to have found his distance a bit. The low kicks are adding up for Blaydes. Lewis lands in an exchange, but Blaydes counters back and nearly topples him with a low kick. Blaydes lands hard in a clinch exchange, then goes back to sticking the jab and low kick. After a delay due to an eye poke, Blaydes sticks one final jab.
Round Two
Blaydes cracks Lewis with a counter combo then truly commits to his first takedown of the fight, but “The Black Beast” defends! OUT OF NOWHERE, LEWIS TIMES A PERFECT UPPERCUT AS BLAYDES DIVES FOR A TAKEDOWN!!!!!!! BLAYDES is ASLEEP!

WOW!!!

Result: Derrick Lewis defeats Curtis Blaydes via second-round knockout
