Anambra Election: Chieftain Explains Implication of APGA's Lead for Southeast At National Level

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Elvis Agukwe, has explained the implications of the perceived outcome of the November 6, Anambra governorship election.

Agukwe has described the lead by the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in the Anambra governorship polls as not politically healthy for the southeast at national politics.

The Guardian reports that Agukwe said the lead by APGA in the Anambra governorship poll is a disadvantage to the zone and the people.

According to the chieftain, should APGA win the Anambra governorship seat, the southeast would be further isolated from the national political grid.

Efforts made by southeast leaders like Hope Uzodinma

He said such an incident would truncate the efforts of some southeast leaders like the Imo state governor, Hope Uzodinma who have continued to work towards bringing the region to the front burner of national politics.

He said:

“Some people erroneously thought that it was between them and Governor Uzodimma; No, he wanted to change strategy for his misguided brothers. We lost an opportunity to stop others from being suspicious of Igbos."

Agukwe also said that the ruling party has worked hard to entrench itself in the southeast to correct some of the misconceptions that the region is at political war without others.

He asked:

“Governor Uzodimma was bold and strategic. APGA has been made to look like an Igbo party. Is there Hausa or Yoruba party?”

He further commended the efforts and courage of the APC governorship candidate in the state, Andy Ubah, among others in trying to rescue the zone.

APGA and Charles Soludo coasting to victory?

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that APGA is coasting to victory in the November 6, Anambra governorship election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The political party with its frontline governorship candidate, Charles Soludo, a former governor at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has won in 18 out of the 21 local government areas in Anambra state.

Among some of the LGA won by Soludo and APGA include; Aguata, Awka North, Awka South, Anambra East, Anambra West and Anaocha LGAs.

Others are Ayamelum, Dunukofia, Ekwusigo, Idemili North, Idemili South, Ihiala, Njikoka, Nnewi South, Onitsha North, Onitsha South, Orumba North and Orumba South.

Also, the chairman of the party, Victor Oye, had commended President Muhammadu Buhari for not interfering in the conduct of the election in Anambra.

Oye describing the president as a father said he (President Buhari) gave INEC the free hand to conduct a free, fair and credible election in the state.
