by James Rodger, https://www.facebook.com/jamesrodgerjournalist · Birmingham LiveThe exact code which reveals whether you could qualify for free insulation and save £100s on your energy bills has been revealed. The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) is a government scheme and help British Gas, EDF, E.On, OVO and Octopus customers save HUNDREDS.
The ECO, which is aimed at tackling the Cost of Living crisis, places a legal obligation on energy suppliers to make sure households are running as energy-efficiently as possible. But households can only apply if they have an energy performance rating of D-G on their property.
British Gas is signed up to the scheme, as well as E (Gas and Electricity) LTd, E.ON, Ecotricity and EDF. Octopus Energy is also on the list alongside Outfox the Market, OVO, Scottish Power, Shell Energy, So Energy (including ESB Energy), The Utility Warehouse and Utilita Energy.

The list of benefits that qualify you for the scheme is Child Tax Credit, Working Tax Credit, Universal Credit, Pension Guarantee Credit, Pension Savings Credit, Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) and Child Benefit.
Housing Benefit is another qualifier. Ofgem explains: "As well as supporting low-income and vulnerable households, it will also be available to those living in homes with an Energy Performance Certificate rating of D-G, and within Council Tax bands A-D in England and A-E in Scotland and Wales."
Adding proper insulation and heating controls to your property could save you money on your energy bills too. The Energy Saving Trust reckons cavity wall insulation can save £235, while heating controls can save £105 and households who get loft insulation stand to save up to £225.
Solid wall insulation means households could save £315 while getting floor insulation on your property can help you save £70. "We encourage everyone who is eligible to apply," the EST said. "Improving the energy efficiency of your home is a vital part of addressing both the energy crisis and climate emergency."
