His high-pitched vocals, noble compositions, and vivid language that he used in his songs made him extremely popular among the audience. But it was only at the mere age of 27 when Amar Singh Chamkila was assassinated with his second wife, Amarjot, in Punjab as they arrived to perform at a show. While the mystery of this case remains unknown, there are several speculated reasons behind it. On the other hand, it's also reported that one of the three shooters of Chamkila and Amarjot is still alive.

For those who don't know, Imtiaz Ali recently released Amar Singh Chamkila, a film based on the lives of the singer and his wife, Amarjot. While Diljit Dosanjh played the role of 'Amar Singh Chamkila', Parineeti Chopra essayed the role of 'Amarjot'. The movie had already created a stir among the cine-lovers by leaving everyone mesmerised.

Amid all this, a report by The Print stated that one of the three killers of Amarjot and Chamkila is still alive. As per the report, the filmmaker, Kabir Singh Chowdhry, who had earlier made a film on Chamkila, and named it Mehsampur, is willing to make another film named Lal Pari, which will feature the three killers of Chamkila. As per the report, Kabir had revealed that his next film would be about one of the three killers of the singer, with whom the filmmaker had spent a few times ahead of his first film on Chamkila, Mehsampur. Kabir reportedly said:
"It’s going to be about one of the three killers, who is still alive. I spent time with him before making Mehsampur."
Who killed Amar Singh Chamkila and his wife, Amarjot
For those who don't know, Amar Singh Chamkila and Amarjot, along with their team members, head towards Mehsampur, Punjab to perform, wherein they were shot to death ahead of the show. On the day, Chamkila even told his fellow members not to worry about him and mentioned that the bullet, which would strike him, would have his name on it. When every one of the team members reached the destination, at first the singer's wife, Amarjot, was knocked down by a gunshot by an unidentified killer, while Chamkila was hit with the bullet from the back.
Once, in an interview, Chamkila's dholak player revealed that before Chamkila was knocked down, he saw Amarjot bleeding and called her 'Babbi' and asked 'tenu ki hoya'. All these years, still the mystery behind this assassination is not known. However, several people believe that it was done by Sikh militants.

It's still under shadow about why Amar Singh Chamkila and Amarjot were killed, and there are several theories behind the same. As per several reports, it can be that Chamkila was killed due to his provocative and controversial lyrics. While in the '80s, people were used to listening to songs related to heroism and romance, Chamkila introduced a new genre of music and wrote songs based on social taboos, including drug abuse and extramarital affairs, among others. One of his songs, Baba Tera Nankana, reportedly grabbed a lot of attention as people believed it to be directed at Baba Nanak about why the latter didn't try to bring two different religions, Hindus and Muslims, together on the same platform and made them believe that there is certainly no difference in them. So, it can be one of the reasons why Amar Singh Chamkila was assassinated.
It still remains the unsolved crossword puzzle about why Amar Singh Chamkila was killed, but another theory blames the militancy period back then when insurgency and the Khalistan movement were at their peak. It was said that some Khalistan leaders also used to give Chamkila threats and used to ask for money for protection, which he refused.

It was reported that Chamkila's popularity was so widespread that he once performed in a total of 366 shows in 365 days, so ongoing professional rivalry can also be a reason for which Amar Singh Chamkila and Amarjot were killed.
