Before Meghan Markle became the Duchess of Sussex after marrying Prince Harry, she was famous for playing the role of Rachel Zane in the hit US legal drama Suits.

But some Meghan Markle fans might not be aware of some of the behind-the-scenes Suits secrets relating to the Duchess and her husband. Meghan famously portrayed the role of Rachel Zane in the hit TV show, with her earning a reported $50,000 per episode (£37K). But she almost didn't land the part, with Meghan going head-to-head with another actress.

And not only this, but Meghan's husband Prince Harry was seemingly referenced in the final ever episode of Suits when it came to an end. But was the reference a coincidence or done on purpose?

According to Harper’s Bazaar, Meghan competed with one other actress before she was cast in the hit series as Rachel Zane, meaning the role could have quite easily gone to someone else, with Meghan's life's path completely changed in the process. It is reported that the Duchess went up against Kim Shaw, with Meghan coming out on top

Jeff Wachtel, chief content officer of NBC Universal Cable Entertainment, told The Hollywood Reporter that Meghan won the role over Kim because of her chemistry with Patrick. "They had it right away. It was a lot of fun," he said.

But this isn't the only Suits secret that might shock you, because Prince Harry was seemingly and ever so slightly referenced in the final episode of the hit series. In the final episode, Louis (played by Rick Hoffman) and Harvey (played by Gabriel Macht) can be seen in the final series having an exchange when the reference seemingly gets made.

"Wait a second. Are you wearing a morning coat?" Harvey asks Louis ahead of his wedding, to which Louis responds, "Of course, I’m wearing a morning coat. Frankly, I’m disappointed you’re not." Harvey then responds "Louis, you’re not the prince of England."

But was this reference a coincidence or done on purpose? Well, the final episode aired in September 2019, with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle married for more than a year and residing in Windsor, England with a four-month-old baby Archie. So perhaps it was just a sweet nod to their former co-star who left acting in her past.
