As heatwaves loom, NFR asks stations to provide water coolers and clean drinking water
· Nagaland PageDIMAPUR, APRIL 13: Anticipating potential heatwaves as summer approaches, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has instructed divisional authorities to ensure availability of clean drinking water at all stations and that existing water coolers are functional.
In a press release issued on Saturday, the NFR stated that had reviewed the availability of drinking water at stations across its jurisdiction.
“At all stations NFR will strive to provide clean drinking water to passengers in accordance with established norms”, it stated.
To further strengthen these efforts during potentially scorching summer months, divisional authorities have been directed to take the following measures: ensure all existing water coolers are functional and meet passenger demand; deploy water tankers at critical stations to supplement existing supplies; conduct regular checks at stations to confirm water availability across all platforms; actively seek support from Mahila Samitis (women self-help groups), NGOs, Scouts and Guides and other Self Help Groups for the distribution of cool drinking water, particularly near general class coaches; collaborate with Municipal Corporations/State Governments and explore alternative water supply solutions in areas facing water scarcity; and implement a system for round-the-clock monitoring by railway staff to ensure consistent water availability and address any emerging issues promptly.
“Railways is committed to providing a comfortable and convenient travel experience for all passengers. These proactive measures aim to guarantee easy access to clean drinking water at stations throughout the summer season”, it added.
