Man attempts to shoot wife at KLIA, injures bodyguard instead, say cops
by Alfian Z.M. Tahir · The Malaysian InsightA BODYGUARD was seriously injured after he was shot by an individual at the arrival hall of KLIA Terminal 1 early this morning.
Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan, in a statement, said the gunman fired two shots at his wife but failed to hit her, injuring her bodyguard instead.
“The man actually wanted to fire the shots at his wife, who was there waiting for the arrival of umrah pilgrims,” Hussein said.
“One of the shots hit a bodyguard, who suffered severe injuries, before the suspect fled the scene,” said Omar.
Hussein added the incident occurred at 1.30am at the airport’s arrival hall.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect, who has been identified.
Hussein said the motive is still being investigated while the case is being probed for attempted murder under Section 307 of the Penal Code.
Hussein stressed that the shooting was not terror-related and the atmosphere in KLIA is safe.
“It is not terror-related but more of a personal reason. KLIA is safe.” – April 20, 2024.
