Bago declares emergency on thuggery in Niger  

Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State has declared a state of emergency on thuggery across the state, warning that government will not condone any form of criminal activity.

The governor made the pronouncement during the yearly Mini Durbar organised by the Talban Minna, Dr Mu’azu Aliyu, who once governed the state.

Bago had declared his administration’s zero tolerance for thuggery, directing security agencies to deal decisively with anyone caught in thuggery or other criminal activities.

He warned that sponsors of criminal elements would also not be spared, even as buildings accommodating criminals would be demolished.

On the Mini Durbar, the governor commended Aliyu for upholding the tradition of horse riding and the rich cultural heritage of the people.

Highlighting the significance of the event, he reiterated that it had been an avenue to strengthen the bond among the citizenry, with a promise to ensure its sustainability, urging the people of the state to come together as one, regardless of political differences, for the overall development of the state.
