In Tamil Nadu, voting for its 39 seats will take place in the first phase on April 19. Constituencies include Thiruvallur, Chennai North, Chennai South, Chennai Central, Sriperumbudur, Kanchipuram, Arakkonam, Vellore, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Thiruvannamalai, Arani, Viluppuram, Kallakurichi, Salem, Namakkal, Erode, Tiruppur, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Pollachi, Dindigul, Karur, Tiruchirappalli, Perambalur, Cuddalore, Chidambaram, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Sivaganga, Madurai, Theni, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari.

PREVIOUS ELECTION DETAILS

In the 2014 general election, the AIADMK, under the leadership of then Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, clinched victory in 37 seats, while the BJP secured 1 seat and the Pattali Makkal Katchi, led by S Ramadoss, secured another seat. The principal opposition party in the state, the DMK, led by the then party patriarch M Karunanidhi, failed to secure a single seat.

The 2019 election was the first after the death of two political supremos in the state - DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi and AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa. Both AIADMK and DMK had agreed to pre-poll alliances with national parties BJP and Congress respectively.
