Noel Gallagher expects Man City's rivals to pip them to the Premier League title

Noel Gallagher is not feeling confident about Manchester City's chances of recording back-to-back trebles, with Arsenal's strong form in the Premier League catching his eye

Manchester City fan Noel Gallagher believes Arsenal will hold off the defending champions and Liverpool to win the Premier League this season.

The Gunners sit top of the table ahead of this weekend’s fixtures, but are separated from Liverpool by goal difference only, with City one point behind in third. Mikel Arteta’s side are chasing a first title in 20 years and have it in their hands with seven games left after a fantastic run of form upped their goal difference to +51.

All three sides are fighting on at least two fronts, with Arsenal and City in the Champions League and Liverpool in the Europa League, while City are also in the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea next weekend. Despite sitting third, the supercomputer favours City following Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against Manchester United on Sunday, but Gallagher is feeling pessimistic about his team’s chances.

Asked on talkSPORT if a repeat of last season's treble is still on, Gallagher replied: "No, no, no, we're conceding too many chances. I look at Arsenal and I think they're barely conceding a corner let alone goals, let alone dropping points. As you know yourself, the best defence ordinarily wins the league and they're just not giving anything up.

"Obviously I want City to win it. If I was a betting man, I've got a sneaky suspicion that the table is going to end the way it is now and I think Arsenal [will] nick it on goal difference. That's the way I see it because we're waiting now for the two of them to drop points and I look at Arsenal and every week you're thinking, 'Well this is the time when they implode.' I'm looking at it and thinking, 'They're just rock solid’."

City beat Crystal Palace 4-2 in the Premier League last weekend before drawing 3-3 with Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday night. They host relegation-threatened Luton next up on Saturday before the second leg against Real and the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea.

The former Oasis guitarist added: "Look at us, we're on a 25-game unbeaten run and we're still third, so the quality is unbelievable. We're well capable of winning it and so are Liverpool – don't count them out – but I just think we're kind of waiting for the two of them to drop points. It can all change on a weekend, I thought we were out of it until Sunday and then United did us a favour.

"So, you never know, but the treble, forget that, we're not going to do that but we'll take one or the other, the league or the Champions League. But we're there, at the start of the season I was thinking, 'God if we get in the top four it'd be great after winning the treble and all that.' We're there and if any team is going to do it, we're going to do it."
