Antonio Conte has said that he is confident in the Tottenham squad after seeing plenty of ‘heart’, ‘passion’, ‘sacrifice’, and ‘fight’ shown by his players in the goalless draw against Everton.

Spurs were held to a 0-0 stalemate by the Toffees at Goodison Park in what was the Italian manager’s first Premier League game in charge of the club.

Conte lined up with the same team at Goodison Park as he did in his maiden game as Spurs boss in the 3-2 win over Vitesse Arnhem in the Europa Conference League, but a similar outcome failed to be achieved.

It was a bitty encounter where defences prevailed and both sides struggled to conjure up much going forward, which left Spurs coming away without a shot on target in 90 minutes.

However, Conte believes he saw a spirited display from his new side, which has given him renewed confidence in his squad heading into the final international break of the year.

He said (via BBC Sport): “Today I saw the heart of my players, the passion, the will to fight, the will to sacrifice, to understand this was a very difficult moment for us. And to see this makes me more confident for the future.

“Sometimes you can teach players the tactical aspect and physical aspect, but the heart and passion you either have or not – my players showed me they are in a good position, this is a good point to start.”

Defensively, Spurs looked a lot more assured and resolute – it was going forward and the final ball that was the problem. With a good chunk of time off, Conte can fine-tune his system by working with some of the team’s players over the international break.
