Antonio Conte opens up on his main positive and negative from Everton draw

Tottenham Hotspur only managed a 0-0 draw in Antonio Conte’s first Premier League match in charge away to Everton this afternoon.

While the Lilywhites were able to shut out their opponents, a stark contrast to the two goals conceded to Vitesse Arnhem on Thursday, they struggled to create clear-cut chances.

The best opportunities to ripple the back of the Everton net came in the first half when Emerson Royal headed a Sergio Reguilon cross over and the latter then missed a great chance put on a plate for him at the back post by Harry Kane.

Unfortunately, Tottenham’s main attacking threats in Kane, Heung-min Son and Lucas Moura struggled to get into scoring positions and their final ball often let them down.

When asked what he made of the performance and the result, Conte’s main positive was the point from a tough away match, while he highlighted the final pass as a problem.

He said (Football London): “Honestly, I have to be happy. I have to be happy for different reasons. The first Goodison Park is not an easy place to come and play.

“If I have to see a negative aspect in this game, I think we made many mistakes with the forward pass. If we make the final pass in the right way, we had chances to score.”

On the defence, he added: “You must have a stable team. Not ups and downs. Today we didn’t concede a goal and it’s a good start.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I agree with Conte completely here. Tottenham were actually pretty impressive right up until the final pass to create consistent chances. The defence was strong, the full-backs got forward well, Skipp offered lots in the centre. The front three just didn’t quite click.
