Diogo Jota has likened Mohamed Salah to Manchester United superstar and Portugal team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Liverpool winger, who has had the pleasure of playing alongside 17-goal Salah at club level this season, believes the Egyptian has the "same standards" as five-time Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the Reds' trip to West Ham on Sunday, Jota said of Salah: "[He is a] great player, world class.

"He is showing his technique to the world this season. He is scoring goals for fun.

"Great goals, individual goals, and for us this is helpful because we have someone on the field who can decide the game, and for the opponents they know they need to be careful and we can then take the spaces that they leave because they are too worried about him."

Jota says Liverpool team-mate Salah is reaching Ronaldo's level

Although Salah's current form is on par with what Ronaldo has been doing for almost 15 years with United, Portugal, Real Madrid and Juventus, Jota admits longevity still sets the phenomenal forwards apart.

"I had that first feeling when I played for the national team with Ronaldo and I think I can put him [Salah] up there to the same standards, though Ronaldo has been doing it for a very long time," he noted.

"When they are on the field they are dangerous and can score at any time. And for me that is very useful as I can watch and learn from them."

Salah has scored or assisted a stunning 23 goals during his 14 games for Liverpool this season, including a hat-trick in the Reds' famous 5-0 win at Old Trafford a fortnight ago.

Ahead of that fixture, each of the managers were asked to compared the in-form 29-year-old to Ronaldo, with Jurgen Klopp firstly stating: "I think the professionalism of both Mo and Cristiano is the one thing you can compare 100%.

"It is probably the same. Mo is incredibly professional. He is really the first one in and very often the last out of all the players.

"He is constantly interested in all the things he can do and has to do to keep or improve the standard. I think he still has a lot to give, 100 per cent.

"It helps him for sure and the team he is playing for then as well and I hope it is for us [in the future]."

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer then weighed in, affirming: "I'll always back Cristiano in any competition.

"He's unique and his goalscoring record has been fantastic and he keeps on scoring.

"But, that being said, Salah is on fire at the moment. You see some of the goals he's scored lately, we know we have to be at our best to defend against him.

"Players like this don't come around very often, we have to enjoy these players from afar, not Sunday!"
