Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo made a ‘coward’s challenge’ on Kevin De Bruyne during the 2-0 defeat to Man City, according to Trevor Sinclair.

The Portugal phenomenon cut a frustrated figure once again as the Red Devils were played off the park by their neighbours, two weeks after losing 5-0 to Liverpool.

Against the Reds, many felt the 36-year-old was lucky to escape with a yellow card after appearing to lash out at Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones on the ground.

And Sinclair felt Ronaldo was taking his anger out on the opposition against City, too, with a late tackle on De Bruyne.

The Belgium midfielder was already on the deck when Ronaldo came sliding in -and got a yellow card for his challenge.

“That’s a cheap one,” former City winger Sinclair told talkSPORT.

“The challenge initially went in from Fernandes, and as he’s down on the floor after being fouled, Ronaldo launches into that.

“I know it’s only one foot, but he’s jumped in with his studs showing. I thought it was a little bit naughty.

“It’s a little bit of frustration, but it’s not OK. I hope De Bruyne is OK because it’s a really poor challenge.

“It’s a coward’s challenge. He’s got away with a couple, the one with Curtis Jones as well.

“He’s got a temper because he’s a winner. He doesn’t like losing.”
