Aston Villa handed double injury boost ahead of Unai Emery's Arsenal return

Aston Villa have been handed a double injury boost ahead of Sunday's Premier League trip to Arsenal, with two first-teamers returning to training

Aston Villa gaffer Unai Emery is poised to welcome back Matt Cash and Clement Lenglet for the upcoming Arsenal clash.

Cash has been out of action due to a hamstring injury picked up during the March international break, while Lenglet was absent from the last two matches owing to a "small problem".

However, both players joined the squad for Friday's training session and could feature at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Emery, who previously took charge of the Gunners from 2018 to 2019, shared an update: "We will train tomorrow and today we recovered with some players. Lenglet and Cash have trained today with the group.

"We will work tomorrow again and we will see how they feel. We will then take a decision on the players tomorrow ahead of Sunday."

Despite a triumphant 2-1 victory over Lille in Thursday's Europa Conference League quarter-final, Villa will be without Douglas Luiz due to a two-match suspension. Jacob Ramsey and Boubacar Kamara remain sidelined for the rest of the season.

Emery, who claimed victory against his old club in the December encounter, insists past results won't influence the weekend's game.

"It is a different context, different circumstances and not really something other than respecting them," he remarked. "It's different, the game we played at home in December to the match we are going to play on Sunday.

"There are a lot of the same players fighting but different because we are playing in a different context, they are fighting for the Premier League and we are fighting them trying to keep our fifth position and fighting with Tottenham."
