Premier League FFP points deduction appeal date set as Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham watch on

Premier League news as Nottingham Forest appeal date has reportedly been set with points deduction wait ongoing after the latest punishment for PSR breaches

Nottingham Forest's appeal against their four-point deduction for breaching Premier League financial rules is set to be heard in the week commencing April 22, according to PA news agency. Forest were penalised in March for exceeding profitability and sustainability rules (PSRs) by £34.5million above their allowed limit of £61million.

The club expressed dissatisfaction with an independent commission's decision, basing their defence on the sale of Brennan Johnson to Tottenham on the final day of the 2023 transfer window. This came over two months later than the June 30 cut-off.

Forest promptly announced their plan to appeal, which will now take place the week following their crucial Premier League match against Everton next Sunday. The outcome isn't expected immediately though, and with Everton also appealing their second points deduction of the season, there's a real possibility that the relegation battle could be determined by boardroom decisions.

Forest will once again present their case, hoping their penalty is reconsidered and thus providing them some relief at the bottom of the table. Their deduction pushed them into the relegation zone, but they managed to move a point ahead of Luton in 18th after Saturday's 2-2 draw with Wolves.

There is now a wait for other sides in the league to discover their fate. Manchester City have 115 charges of their own looming - though these are for different alleged wrongdoings - whilst Chelsea are under external investigations for financial blackspots in historic accounts from the Roman Abramovich era.

The Blues are one of many clubs forecasted to be pushing the PSR threshold heading into the next period ending in 2023/24. Teams that have spent the entirety of a rolling three-year timeframe in the top flight have an allowed loss parameter of £105million.

These rules are set to change moving forward after clubs discussed moving towards UEFA's squad cost measures.
